Born Syreeta Lorraine Shine on June 20 in Sacramento, Ca. Shine began singing in her grandmother’s home away from home, Saint Paul Baptist Church, as a young girl. Brought up in the church, Shine learned to love everything from gospel to rhythm and blues. Knicknamed “Sugamama” and “Miss Hollywood” as a child, Syreeta was constantly caught dancing in the mirror singing “old school” songs, and her family knew at an early age that Shine was born for stardom. Syreeta attended Sheldon High School where she became a member of the dance company Universal Rhythm. Well known for their dance routines in her hometown, and her love for Janet Jackson’s dance moves she was named “Miss Janet” with Shine at the lead, the group had amazing performances.
In April of 2005 Syreeta Shine moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional recording artist. Through networking as a model and actress in T.I.’s “What You Know About That”, as well as being featured as the leading lady in Pharrell’s “Mr. Me Too “video, she met many prominent people from big record labels.
Through her efforts, obstacles, failures, and near success, Syreeta has become a stronger and wiser artist. After trips around the country which landed her in recording studios in Atlanta, Nashville, and the Bay Area, Syreeta is back in the city of Angels hungrier than ever before. She has worked closely for the past year with friend and Grammy Award winning producer, Brian Kennedy. The two have collaborated on numerous tracks ranging from R&B to Pop to Rock to Euro-like House. The most personal of which being “Breakfree”. A heartfelt ballad which has caught the ears and attention of industry execs and artists all over the country. On November 16th, 2009, Syreeta Shine starred in HER first video, “Breakfree”, produced by Brian Kennedy, and directed by director Taj Stansberry.
For Syreeta Shine, the sky is only another limit yet to be surpassed.
