Chita is geared up for an exciting year as she takes to the stage to audition for season 3 of The Voice Australia. Will Chita’s voice turn a chair? Her vocals are versatile – they can be soulful and vulnerable or commanding and energetic but there is one constant, they are always heart-felt.
Chita, Australian singer and songwriter, writes songs often characterised by themes of love, relationships and empowerment and her music is inspired by her French-Creole descent. Musical styles such as Dancehall and Reggae are often fused with Pop and Soul. In Chita’s song ‘Eyes on You’ from her debut EP of the same name, Ragga style is fused with Pop. Also on the EP, ‘Infectious’ has more of a contemporary-pop feel with subtle undertones of African-inspired rhythms.
Chita’s love for music stems from her fixation with how it makes her feel – “When I am songwriting or performing I don’t just hear the music, I feel it… and I want my fans to feel something too.”
Surprisingly, Chita did not grow up in a musical family but music was constantly played in her home. Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bob Marley and Simon & Garfunkel are just some of the greats that sparked Chita’s interest in music.
Chita is currently writing for her second EP, to be released Summer 2014/2015. Expect dynamic melodies, vivid and textured pop vocals and edgy tribal rhythms – what Chita calls “modern-eclectic pop music.”
