SexBomb Girls

SexBomb Girls is a group of all-Filipina categorized into two: singers and dancers. The group is managed by Joy Cancio of FOCUS E Incorporated. She’s a veteran of the Vicor Dancers of the 1980’s.

The group was formed first as Chicken Sandwich Dancers which was an offshoot of the Danz Focus on November 1999. They were back-up dancers of the longest running noontime show Eat Bulaga!. The group comprised mainly of 4 members namely Cheryl, Debbie, Janice and Rochelle. It expanded into 6 adding Jopay and Aira. Then it expanded again into 8, 12 and 13 on their first appearance in FHM. Only Rochelle Pangilinan of the four members remained and was considered as the leader because of her long sojourn on the group.

DJ Bomb was formed on 2004 and is a sister group of Sexbomb. It comprises of Jovel Palomo and Danielle Ramirez. The two later added on the line-up of the singers.

The singers were called Sexbomb Girls in their shows and gigs. The dancers appeared on dance albums like Sexiest Hits Series and I Like. Generally, the singers and the dancers were referred as the Sexbomb Girls.

Like any other group, Sexbomb almost split up due to internal fighting among its members. The dispute was all about money. Jopay and other members criticized the unfair payment of their monthly salary. Rochelle Pangilinan received 400,000 a month and the singer including Jopay received only 80,000 a month. On the other hand, the dancers received only 30,000 a month.

An interview of the rival station of GMA, ABS-CBN of some of the members of the band aggravated the situation instead of reducing it. The controversial interview was viewed as a rebellion not just against Joy Cancio, its manager but also to the station itself. Fans felt that the band would definitely come to an end but it was miraculously healed. The major financial problem was settled and the stability was restored. The singers started receiving 250,000 a month and the dancers were receiving 55,000. it is a hard part for Rochelle when her salary did reduced to 37.5%.

Bakit Papa, the very own movie of the Sexbomb Girls was released nationwide on 2002. The singers were the lead roles while the dancers were the back-ups. The movie was produced by Regal Films. Here are some of the movies which some Sexbomb Girl/s collaborate: Tusong Twesome (2001), Bertud Ng Putik (2002), Lastikman (2002), Anak Ka Ng Tatay Mo (20024), Fantastikman (2004), Enteng Kabisote (2004), Lastikman (2004), Ispiritista (2005) etc.

Many albums were released by the group. There were 7 Sexbomb Girls albums, 4 dance albums and 2 Christmas albums. Some of the albums achieved a Gold and Platinum status (4, 5 & 2X Platinum).

On March 2006, Sexbomb Girls was plunged into dispute with Eat Bulaga! when former Sugar Mercado after her expiration of her contract with the group was hired and heavily promoted. In objection of the act, the girls leftthe show and was replaced by EB Babes.

Sexbomb did return to the show on December 2006 as a part of a Christmas song and dance number. The group ended with a showdown with the EB Babes on February 2007. Sexbomb made a temporary return appearing only on Fridays.

On September of 2007, SIS, GMA’s morning show conducted a search for a new Sexbomb member. Michelle Mercado was proclaimed winner and the newest member of the group. Shane Gonzales, one of the finalists is also part of the group.

On 2007, Rochelle Pangilinan released her solo album entitled Rocaholic but still considered as a member of the Sexbomb Girls. She was the second Sexbomb member who released a solo album next to Jacque Estevez. Jacque Estevez is the original winner for the Cebu Search for the Sexbomb Dancer on 2002. She left the group not more than one month and finished her high school diploma. She then returned and released her solo album on 2005 but still a part of the Sexbomb stable. Recently, she left the group and pursued a solo career.

Sexbomb is visible with their very own afternoon drama series Daisy Siete. The series is being aired over GMA Network at 2:30 pm weekdays. Their talents were showcased in 18 season of the series. They were working currently on the Season 18: Prince Charming and The Seven Maids. The rating of the said drama reached its highest rating for afternoon block charting 30% in December 2003. It blown away all other shows of the rival network with ratings anywhere 19%-25 % these days. The girls were part also of Da Boy and Da Girl from 2002 to 2003.

Aside from Daisy Siete, the girls are visible ion several guesting on the GMA Network such as Love to Love Season 5 (Jacque), Love to Love Season 8 (Jopay), Darna (Rochelle & Jacque), Encantadia (Jopay & Sunshine), Etheria (Jopay) etc. The group also appeared in QTV Channel 11’s weekly dance-oriented show, Let’s Get Aww! on 2005 but lasted only for one season. However, Sexbomb Girls perform regularly and make their dance numbers in SOP Rules. They also be seen on a game show, Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok! hosted by Paolo Bediones. The show is in its second season.

Focus E allocated several Sexbomb dancers and Danz Focus members to Japan for concerts as well as vacation. All the members being sent to Japan are still working with the group. Rochelle traveled to Japan to work with other girls and promote her solo album.

The group was criticized because of their promotion of sex through their songs, movements & dance steps and appearances. In spite of this, the band continue to produce hit songs among their Philippine fans.
