A Professional Career: France 2009 and Beyond
In 2007, after completing her studies in Linguistics and French at the University of the West Indies, Kei DUBB, thought she would simple settle into the normal routine of a day job and forget about her musical aspirations. However, she had family members who would never let her forget that she had a talent to share with the world and that she had promised to pursue it after finishing school. Still, Kei DUBB shied away from the spotlight only doing back ground vocals for recordings and the like. In 2009, Kei DUBB recorded her first song Keep On and lent her vocals to songs by reggae superstars Gyptian and Turbulence. Shortly after recording Keep On, Kei DUBB made a decision that would, unbeknownst to her, change her life forever.
In September 2009, Kei DUBB moved to Montpellier France to work as an English Language Assistant at Lycée Jean Monnet. It was there that she would be confronted by her musical talents once more. After learning that she was a singer, students and teachers alike would ensure that she was heard at any event that was being held. Other Language Assistants also ensured that Kei DUBB performed at concerts and open mic nights around the city. The encouragement from others, lead Kei DUBB to once again find the courage to perform an original song Move Along. The song became an instant hit and everyone was singing along by the second verse. This led to Kei DUBB returning to Jamaica and working on her professional music career in 2010.
“Performing Move Along really opened my eyes to what I had” says Kei DUBB. “Here I was performing an original song to an audience in France and they were singing along. This was not a cover of a popular reggae song, but an original I had never performed before and the audience loved it.”
After her 8 month stint in France, Kei DUBB returned to Jamaica and continued to perform and captivate audiences with beautifully laid covers and stirring original tracks even though she was not officially recording. The end of 2011 saw Kei DUBB riding the momentum of her very popular live performances and taking to the studio to record tracks for promotional release.
